Downland Courses in Kent

In Kent's Idyllic Countryside...

North Foreland Golf Course

North Foreland

Established in 1903 in Broadstairs, North Foreland is steeped in history. Its elevated location above Kent’s white cliffs ensures stunning panoramas of the English Channel and east Kent countryside from every hole. Broad fairways disguise a tricky layout where strategically-placed bunkers lie in wait whilst the layout also demands accurate, solid second shots in order to hold the greens.

Testament to the quality of its championship course, North Foreland was chosen as one of the Final Qualifying Courses for The 2003 Open Championship. The club also possesses a par 3 course, The Northcliffe, which offers golfers a chance to hone their short game.

Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club

Perched on top of the world-famous White Cliffs of Dover, with sea views from every hole, the unique location of this beautiful course delivers stunning views across the English Channel to the coast of France. Walmer and Kingsdown is not only the closest course to Europe, separated by the world’s busiest stretch of water, but one of only a few in the world where golfers can see another country while enjoying a game. The memorable experience is enhanced by the panoramic outlook along the Kent coast towards Ramsgate, plus inland views across the countryside of the picturesque Garden of England. The iconic White Cliffs and sparkling sea not only provide the setting for the perfect sunny Spring or Summer day – their chalk delivers rapid drainage to ensure year-round golf, regardless of the amount of Autumn or Winter rain.

Located between the port of Dover and the pretty towns of Deal and Sandwich, the Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club is just 70 miles from London and readily accessible from all parts of southern England via the M25, M20 and M2 motorways. Access from Europe is easy too, via the Channel Tunnel and cross-channel ferries, which makes the course a popular destination for visitors from France, Belgium, The Netherlands and beyond. Renowned course designer James Braid created the course around the natural landscape high up on the edge of the White Cliffs of Dover, incorporating a sharp ridge and steep valley leading into the adjoining countryside, ensuring that it maximised the panoramic views in every direction from the unique location.

The Downland course measures 6471 yards off the white tees and is eminently playable while offering fascinating challenges for all abilities in truly wonderful surroundings. The superb condition and challenges of the course, the stunning location and views plus the clubhouse facilities and catering combine to deliver a memorable experience that ensures visitors return again and again.
