Golf is known as a sport of leisure and one of the most popular, well-received sports worldwide.  As all avid golfers will know, a game of golf is both physical and mentally stimulating.  Although golf may not be considered a physically demanding sport, a round of golf will have you outside for hours at a time, walking a good pace and constantly using your brain - providing a wide variety health benefits for people of all ages!

On Course For Fitness

Whether you haven't picked up your clubs in a while or you are an avid player, you may be delighted to know that not only is golf great fun but is good for both body and mind and possibly also a long life!

  • Weight Loss/Healthy Heart - Golfers typically walk from 4 to 8 miles during an 18 hole game.  With all the swinging, walking and carrying involved, golfers are burning hundreds of calories at a time.  As with any form of physical exercise which gets the heart pumping, playing golf can lead to quite a bit of exercise for the heart and increase in blood flow - naturally lowering risks for heart disease and levels of cholesterol.
  • Healthy Mind - Although golf may be easy to learn, it can be difficult to master - concentration and physical activity are thought to have a huge benefit to your mind set  and help to improve focus!
  • Get Social - Whether a friendly competition or a chance to catch up - golf offers a chance to connect and socialise.  The low intensity of the game means that players can have a conversation whilst playing.  One or two business deals have been know to have been struck on the course as well!
  • Reduce Stress and Enjoy Nature  - Being in a stunning outdoor setting interacting with others can help to alleviate stress.  The pleasure of spending time with friends in an open and natural environment can enhance your mood and release endorphins  - making you happier and more relaxed.

Why not play a game this weekend?
